The meeting provided a platform for retailers to come together, showcasing the achievements of ALTO and its partners over the past year. Attendees, which included representatives from ALTO retail partners and key community leaders, discussed best practices and current trends with expert guest speakers, paving the way for innovative solutions to combat retail crime.
ALTO operations leadership, key leaders from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the District Attorney’s Office of Los Angeles, as well as representatives from ALTO’s retail partners, gathered for the event; among those present were Ralphs, Walgreens, CVS, Target, Bloomingdales, and Northgate Markets.
The guest speaker panel included Russell Veloni, Senior Lead Officer of LAPD Harbor Division; Jacob Lee, Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles; and Esther Kim, Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles. Their insights highlighted the critical importance of documentation and reporting, emphasizing quality communication with the ALTO team to build robust cases against offenders. They also stressed the necessity of accurate and timely evidence to ensure effective follow-through in court.
During the meeting, the benefits of the ALTO Alliance were highlighted, showing how a unified voice and collaborative efforts among retailers have led to more extensive and successful cases against repeat offenders. ALTO Senior Attorney Philip Okita discussed new California laws affecting retail theft and their implications for the industry, advising on the importance of detailed victim statements and substantial video evidence for building strong cases.
